কালান্দিয়া চেকপয়েন্টে প্রায় ১৫ মিটার দূর থেকে সেখানে অবস্থানরত নিরাপত্তাকর্মীদের দিকে একটি ছুরি ছোড়ার পর নিরাপত্তারক্ষীদের গুলিতে শহীদ হন। গুলিবিদ্ধ হওয়ার সময় তিনি কারও জন্য প্রকৃত কোনো বিপদ ছিলেন না। তাঁর সঙ্গে থাকা ১৬ বছর বয়সী ভাইকে এর পরপরই গুলি করে হত্যা করা হয়। গণমাধ্যমের খবর অনুযায়ী, তদন্তে দেখা যায় তাঁকে পেছন থেকে দুবার গুলি করা হয়, একবার পিঠে ও একবার নিতম্বে।
