Selon un communiqué de la police israélienne, il est arrivé au point de contrôle de Qalandia et a poignardé un policier qui portait un gilet de protection et n'a pas été blessé. D'autres policiers l'ont blessé par balle. Alors qu'il gisait blessé au sol, un démineur de la police s'est approché pour le fouiller. Al-Faqih a tenté de poignarder le démineur et a été abattu d'une balle dans la tête par un agent de la police des frontières.

According to a statement by the Israel Police, he arrived at Qalandia Checkpoint and stabbed a police officer who was wearing a protective vest and was not injured. Other police officers shot and injured him. When he was lying wounded on the ground, a police bomb sapper approached him to search his person. Al-Faqih tried to stab the sapper and was shot dead by a gunshot to the head by a Border Police officer.
