در ورودی اردوگاه پناهندگان با شلیک سربازان شهید شد. بنا بر روایت ارتش از رویدادها، سربازان پس از آنکه گمان کردند او می‌کوشد آنان را زیر بگیرد شلیک کردند. گفته‌های ساکنان به بتسلم نشان می‌دهد که جحاجحه، مانند دیگران، با شنیدن خبر ورود سربازان می‌کوشید از اردوگاه بگریزد. بعدها یک غیرنظامی فلسطینی دیگر در شرایطی مشابه با شلیک پلیس مرزی شهید شد.

Shot dead by soldiers at the entrance to the refugee camp. According to the military’s account of events, the soldiers fired after they suspected he was trying to run them over. Accounts given to B’Tselem by residents indicate that Jahahja was trying to flee the camp, as did others, when he heard of the soldiers’ arrival. Later, another Palestinian civilian was killed under similar circumstances by Border Police gunfire.
