قُتل برصاص الجنود عند مدخل مخيم اللاجئين. وبحسب رواية الجيش للأحداث، أطلق الجنود النار بعد أن اشتبهوا في أنه يحاول دهسهم. وتفيد روايات السكان لبتسيلم بأن جحجاح كان يحاول الفرار من المخيم، كما فعل آخرون، عندما سمع بوصول الجنود. وفي وقت لاحق استُشهد مدني فلسطيني آخر في ظروف مماثلة برصاص حرس الحدود.

Shot dead by soldiers at the entrance to the refugee camp. According to the military’s account of events, the soldiers fired after they suspected he was trying to run them over. Accounts given to B’Tselem by residents indicate that Jahahja was trying to flee the camp, as did others, when he heard of the soldiers’ arrival. Later, another Palestinian civilian was killed under similar circumstances by Border Police gunfire.
