در جریان راهپیمایی بزرگ بازگشت در نزدیکی حصار مرزی غزه، در شمال شهرک خزاعه، از سوی نیروهای امنیتی اسرائیل هدف گلوله به سر قرار گرفت؛ هزاران نفر در این تظاهرات شرکت داشتند. در این تظاهرات، برخی معترضان لاستیک آتش زدند و به سوی نیروهای امنیتی اسرائیل مستقر در آن سوی حصار سنگ پرتاب کردند. به گزارش رسانه‌ها، در محل تظاهرات کوکتل مولوتف پرتاب شد. ابوالنجا در حالی که در حدود ۱۰۰ متری حصار پشت سطل‌های زباله و تکه‌های سیم خاردار حلقوی پنهان شده بود، هدف گلوله قرار گرفت.

Shot in the head by Israeli security forces during the Return Protests near the Gaza perimeter fence, north of the town of Khuza’ah; thousands took part in the protests. During the demonstration, some of the demonstrators torched tires and threw stones at Israeli security forces stationed on the other side of the fence. According to media reports, Molotov cocktails were hurled in the area of the demonstration. Abu a-Naja was shot while hiding behind trash cans and bits of concertina wire some 100 meters from the fence.
