বিরকিনে ইসরায়েলি সেনারা শহরে প্রবেশের পর শুরু হওয়া সংঘর্ষে সেনাদের গুলিতে মাথায় গুরুতর আঘাত পান। সংঘর্ষের সময় ফিলিস্তিনিরা প্রায় ১০০-১৫০ মিটার দূর থেকে সেনাদের দিকে পাথর ছোড়ে। আবু উবাইদ সেদিনই পরে আঘাতজনিত কারণে শহীদ হন। বিরকিনে থাকাকালে সেনাবাহিনী তিনটি অনাবাসিক স্থাপনা ভেঙে দেয়।
