Ficou mortalmente ferido na cabeça por disparos das forças de segurança israelenses durante a Grande Marcha do Retorno, perto da cerca de fronteira de Gaza, ao norte da cidade de Khuza'ah; milhares participaram dos protestos. Abu Jamus foi baleado quando estava a cerca de 100 m da cerca. Fatally wounded in the head from shots fired by Israeli security forces during the Return Protests near the Gaza perimeter fence, north of the town Khuza'ah; thousands took part in the protests. Abu Jamus was shot when he was approximately 100m away from the fence. During the protest he had torched tires and thrown stones at Israeli security forces stationed on the other side of the fence. Succumbed to his wounds later that day.
