খুজাআ শহরের উত্তরে গাজার সীমান্ত বেড়ার কাছে গ্রেট মার্চ অব রিটার্ন বিক্ষোভের সময় ইসরায়েলি নিরাপত্তা বাহিনীর গুলিতে মাথায় মারাত্মক আহত হন; বিক্ষোভে হাজার হাজার মানুষ অংশ নেন। বেড়া থেকে প্রায় ১০০ মিটার দূরে থাকার সময় আবু জামুস গুলিবিদ্ধ হন। বিক্ষোভের সময় তিনি টায়ারে আগুন দিয়েছিলেন এবং বেড়ার অপর পাশে অবস্থানরত ইসরায়েলি নিরাপত্তা বাহিনীর দিকে পাথর ছুড়েছিলেন। সেদিনই পরে আঘাতজনিত কারণে শহীদ হন।

Abu Jamus was shot when he was approximately 100m away from the fence. During the protest he had torched tires and thrown stones at Israeli security forces stationed on the other side of the fence. Succumbed to his wounds later that day.
