أُصيب إصابة قاتلة في رأسه برصاص القوات الأمنية الإسرائيلية خلال مسيرات العودة قرب السياج الحدودي لغزة، شمالي بلدة خزاعة، وشارك الآلاف في المسيرات. وأُصيب أبو جاموس بالرصاص وهو على بعد نحو ١٠٠ متر من السياج. وخلال الاحتجاج كان قد أشعل الإطارات ورشق القوات الأمنية الإسرائيلية المتمركزة على الجانب الآخر من السياج بالحجارة. وتوفي متأثرًا بجراحه في اليوم نفسه.

Fatally wounded in the head from shots fired by Israeli security forces during the Return Protests near the Gaza perimeter fence, north of the town Khuza'ah; thousands took part in the protests. Abu Jamus was shot when he was approximately 100m away from the fence. During the protest he had torched tires and thrown stones at Israeli security forces stationed on the other side of the fence. Succumbed to his wounds later that day.
