È stato colpito alla parte superiore del corpo da colpi d'arma da fuoco di soldati israeliani dopo che lui e altri due adolescenti avevano attraversato la recinzione di confine di Gaza, a est di Shokat a-Sufi, cercando di entrare in Israele in cerca di lavoro. Hit in the upper body by Israeli soldiers’ gunfire after he and two other teenagers crossed the Gaza perimeter fence, east of Shokat a-Sufi, trying to enter Israel to seek work. Two of the boys had knives, which they tossed by the fence before they were shot. One of the other two boys was also hit by the gunfire. He was treated in a hospital in Israel and taken back to Gaza a few days later. The third boy was sent back into Gaza on the day of the incident. On 14 April 2019, the Palestinian DCO informed Shteiwi’s family of his death.
