घर लौटते समय सैनिकों की गोलीबारी से गंभीर रूप से घायल हुआ। फ़िलिस्तीनियों द्वारा पत्थर फेंके जाने के बाद गोली चलाने वाले सैनिक असफ़ूर से 100 मीटर से अधिक दूर थे। उसी दिन बाद में अस्पताल में उसकी मौत हो गई।

Critically wounded by soldiers’ gunfire as he was walking home. The soldiers, who fired after Palestinians threw stones at them, were more than a 100 meters away from ‘Asfur. He died later that day in hospital.
