در جریان راهپیمایی بزرگ بازگشت نزدیک حصار مرزی غزه، در شمال شهر خزاعه، بر اثر شلیک سربازان اسرائیلی از ناحیه سر هدف گلوله قرار گرفت؛ هزاران نفر در این اعتراضات شرکت داشتند. در جریان تظاهرات، برخی از تظاهرکنندگان لاستیک آتش زدند و به سوی نیروهای امنیتی اسرائیل که در آن سوی حصار مستقر بودند سنگ پرتاب کردند. ابو مصطفی، که به دلیل زخم گلوله پیشین در پایش با عصا راه می‌رفت، هنگامی که زیر درختی در فاصله دست‌کم ۱۰۰ متری حصار نشسته بود، هدف قرار گرفت. او اندکی بعد بر اثر جراحاتش شهید شد.

Hit in the head by Israeli soldiers’ gunfire during the Return Protests near the Gaza perimeter fence, north of the town of Khuza’ah; thousands took part in the protests. During the demonstration, some of the demonstrators torched tires and threw stones at Israeli security forces who were stationed on the other side of the fence. Abu Mustafa, who was using crutches due to a previous gunshot wound to the leg, was hit while seated under a tree, at least 100 meters away from the fence. He succumbed to his wounds shortly after.
