আল-বুরেইজ শরণার্থী শিবিরের পূর্বে গাজা সীমান্ত বেড়ার কাছে গ্রেট মার্চ অব রিটার্ন বিক্ষোভের সময় ইসরায়েলি নিরাপত্তা বাহিনীর গুলিতে শরীরের ওপরের অংশে আঘাত পান; হাজার হাজার মানুষ বিক্ষোভে অংশ নেন। সেদিনই পরে আঘাতের কারণে শহীদ হন। বিক্ষোভের সময় কিছু বিক্ষোভকারী টায়ার জ্বালান এবং বেড়ার অপর পাশে অবস্থানরত ইসরায়েলি নিরাপত্তা বাহিনীর দিকে পাথর, হাতে তৈরি গ্রেনেড ও হাতে তৈরি বিস্ফোরক ছোড়েন।
