আস-সুরেইজ শহরের উত্তর-পূর্বে গাজা সীমান্ত বেড়ার কাছে গ্রেট মার্চ অব রিটার্ন বিক্ষোভের সময় বেড়া থেকে কয়েক ডজন মিটার দূর থেকে ইসরায়েলি নিরাপত্তা বাহিনীর দিকে পাথর ছোড়ার সময় তাদের গুলিতে মাথায় বিদ্ধ হন; বিক্ষোভে সর্বোচ্চ কয়েকশো মানুষ অংশ নেন। বিক্ষোভে কিছু বিক্ষোভকারী টায়ারে আগুন দেন এবং বেড়ার ওপারে অবস্থানরত ইসরায়েলি নিরাপত্তা বাহিনীর দিকে পাথর ছোড়েন। কিছুক্ষণ পর আল-বাজ আঘাতের কারণে শহীদ হন।
