Shot in the back by Israeli security forces when he was at least 100 meters away from the Gaza perimeter fence, during the Return Protests near the fence, east of Gaza City; thousands took part in the protests. At the protest, some demonstrators torched tires and threw stones, explosive devices and improvised grenades – some of which landed in the Gaza Strip – at Israeli security forces stationed on the other side of the fence.
