গাজা সীমান্ত বেড়া থেকে প্রায় ৫০০ মিটার দূরে নিজ বাড়ির বাইরে শহীদ হন। তিনি শহীদ হওয়ার প্রায় এক ঘণ্টা আগে আল-কারারা থেকে ৭ কিলোমিটারেরও বেশি দূরে খুজাআ শহরের কাছে থাকা সশস্ত্র যোদ্ধাদের গুলিতে এক সেনা আহত হন। সেনা আহত হওয়ার পর সেনাবাহিনী গাজা সীমান্ত বেড়া এলাকায় গুলি চালায় এবং তাতে আস-সামিরি আঘাতপ্রাপ্ত হন।
