গাজা সীমান্ত বেড়া থেকে প্রায় ২০০ মিটার দূরে দাঁড়িয়ে থাকার সময় ইসরায়েলি নিরাপত্তা বাহিনীর গুলিতে বুকে গুলিবিদ্ধ হন। খুজাআহ শহরের উত্তরে বেড়ার কাছে গ্রেট মার্চ অব রিটার্ন বিক্ষোভের সময় তাঁকে গুলি করা হয়; হাজার হাজার মানুষ বিক্ষোভে অংশ নেন। বিক্ষোভে কিছু বিক্ষোভকারী টায়ার জ্বালান এবং বেড়ার অপর পাশে অবস্থানরত ইসরায়েলি নিরাপত্তা বাহিনীর দিকে পাথর, হাতে তৈরি বিস্ফোরক ও হাতে তৈরি গ্রেনেড ছোড়েন।
